Chartered Physiotherapist & Musculoskeletal Specialist
Dr Harun Dere is a highly qualified Chartered Physiotherapist and researcher with extensive
clinical and academic experience in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, rehabilitation and the
management of complex musculoskeletal conditions.
He holds a PhD in Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation and a Master’s degree in
Chiropractic, combining advanced academic knowledge with a broad range of hands-on
clinical skills. His clinical practice focuses particularly on musculoskeletal and orthopaedic
conditions, sports injuries, persistent pain and post-operative rehabilitation.
Dr Dere has a particular interest and clinical expertise in musculoskeletal injections and
image-guided interventions. He performs ultrasound-guided and landmark-guided
(blind) joint injections, including hyaluronic acid and corticosteroid injections, where
clinically appropriate. These interventions may be used in the management of conditions
affecting the shoulder, hip, knee and other peripheral joints, alongside appropriate
rehabilitation and exercise-based treatment.
Musculoskeletal & Interventional Expertise
Dr Dere's clinical interests include:
• Musculoskeletal and orthopaedic conditions
• Shoulder pain, rotator cuff conditions and frozen shoulder
• Knee, hip and ankle disorders
• Back and neck pain
• Sciatica and nerve-related pain
• Sports and exercise-related injuries
• Osteoarthritis and joint stiffness
• Persistent and chronic musculoskeletal pain
• Post-operative and post-injury rehabilitation
• Joint injections, including hyaluronic acid and corticosteroid injections
• Ultrasound-guided and landmark-guided joint injections
• Acupuncture and dry needling
• Postural and work-related musculoskeletal conditions
• Scoliosis management using the Schroth Method
• Neurological rehabilitation
• Geriatric physiotherapy, including mobility, balance and falls prevention
• Paediatric physiotherapy
• Vertigo assessment and treatment, including the Epley manoeuvre
• Pelvic health physiotherapy, including pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain, pelvic
floor dysfunction and urinary incontinence
Musculoskeletal Ultrasound
Dr Dere has a strong interest in musculoskeletal ultrasound imaging and its application in
clinical assessment and intervention. He uses a clinical reasoning approach to integrate physical
examination, functional assessment and imaging where appropriate, helping to establish an
accurate diagnosis and develop an individualised treatment plan.
His interest in ultrasound complements his interventional practice, particularly when
considering ultrasound-guided injections and other targeted musculoskeletal
interventions.
Academic & Research Experience
Alongside his clinical practice, Dr Dere is an active researcher with a PhD in Physiotherapy
and Rehabilitation. He has published multiple peer-reviewed research papers in areas
including exercise physiology, rehabilitation technology and the relationship between
physical health and wellbeing.
His academic and research background allows him to maintain an evidence-based approach to
clinical decision-making, while ensuring that treatment is tailored to each patient's individual
presentation, goals and lifestyle.
Clinical Approach
Dr Dere takes a patient-centred and evidence-based approach to musculoskeletal care. He
believes that effective treatment should go beyond simply managing symptoms and should
address the underlying factors contributing to pain, dysfunction and reduced physical
performance.
Where appropriate, his treatment may combine manual therapy, exercise rehabilitation,
acupuncture, musculoskeletal ultrasound assessment and injection therapy to provide a
comprehensive and individually tailored approach to patient care.
Whether treating an acute sporting injury, a persistent musculoskeletal condition, osteoarthritis
or a patient recovering from surgery, Dr Dere aims to provide clear clinical assessment,
evidence-informed treatment and a rehabilitation plan designed around the patient's individual
goals.
Dr Dere is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and is
a Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (MCSP).
